St. Maarten: Couples Trip and Recommendations

Now, before we get into the trip details let’s address the elephant in the room – the success of a couples’ trip heavily depends on who you’re traveling with. Luckily, my husband and I have had some incredible experiences with other couples, and our trip to St. Maarten was no exception.

Okay, now– let’s talk about the island itself. St. Maarten may not have lived up to our expectations in terms of breathtaking scenery, but it certainly has its own charm. Divided between the French and Dutch sides, we opted to stay at the JW Marriott on the Dutch side. Despite being a new resort still under construction, we were pleasantly surprised by its cleanliness, beach access, and accommodating staff. While it didn’t quite make it to the top of our favorites list, it provided a comfortable base for our trip.

Onto the highlight of our trip – Anguilla. A short 30-minute charter boat ride away, Anguilla stole our hearts in just one day. We split our time between the Four Seasons Resort and the vibrant Savi Beach Club, both of which I highly recommend. The Four Seasons wowed us with its stunning infinity pool and cuisine, while Savi Beach Club offered an upbeat atmosphere with a live DJ which was exactly what we needed.

As for St. Maarten, we won’t be rushing back anytime soon. However, Anguilla and St. Barths (which we unfortunately missed out on this time) remain top picks for future trips. The beauty of visiting these islands is the convenience of island-hopping – so why not spice up your St. Maarten trip with a visit to one (or both!) of these neighboring gems?

At the end of the day, while St. Maarten may not have been our cup of tea, our day in Anguilla made the entire trip worthwhile. So, if you find yourself planning a trip to St. Maarten, consider adding a dash of adventure by exploring the nearby islands. Trust us, you won’t regret it!
