A Different Approach to Labor & Delivery Baskets: It’s Not About the Gifts

As I get closer to my due date, one thing I knew I wanted to check off my list early was putting together a few thoughtful gift baskets for the labor and delivery nurses who will be part of our baby’s birth story. These are definitely now a requirement, but I personally like to set the tone when I enter any kind of trusted, care-based environment.

Whether it’s a new dentist, OBGYN, or even my nail and lash techs, I’ve always made it a point to show appreciation and warmth to those in service-based roles—especially those I’ll be relying on for care, comfort, and expertise. A simple, kind gesture like a gift or even just intentional small talk (“How’s your day going?”) goes a long way. Over the years, I’ve noticed that when I extend thoughtfulness first, it helps build mutual trust and honesty in the relationship.

It’s not about buying good service, it’s about honoring it.

We recently finished our birthing classes, and although we’ll have our amazing doula with us on delivery day, it really opened our eyes to just how impactful our entire labor and delivery team will be in our experience bringing our first child into the world. As first-time parents, that realization hit us hard. These aren’t just medical professionals, they’ll be part of one of the most emotional, intense, and sacred days of our lives. They’ll be coaching us, advocating for us, and guiding us through the unknown. That alone deserves acknowledgment.

We often expect people in service roles to go above and beyond, yet we sometimes overlook the power of being a light to them, too. While I don’t give gifts to every person in my life, I do try to remember birthdays, celebrate milestones, and be genuinely interested in how they’re doing. These baskets are simply an extension of that same heart posture.

And yes, I know I’m putting them together earlier than most people probably would. But that’s my Type A personality on full display (hi, I’m her 😂). I’m doing everything in my power to have my ducks in a row now so that my final few weeks of pregnancy can be as restful as possible.

What’s Inside My Labor & Delivery Nurse Baskets:

I found everything for the baskets on Amazon, which made it super easy to plan, purchase, and assemble everything from home. With Amazon Prime Days coming up July 8–11, it’s a great time to keep an eye out for deals. While I can’t guarantee these exact items will be included in the sale, it’s still a perfect opportunity to grab the things you’ve been eyeing for your own basket (or just to check one more thing off your list!)

I decided to go with a blue theme in honor of our sweet baby boy and kept the items useful, comforting, and a little fun. Here’s what I included:

KIND Breakfast Bars – Blueberry Almond
For a quick bite during long shifts.

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier – Watermelon Flavor
Because staying hydrated during a 12-hour shift is a must.

Vaseline Lip Therapy – Original
A tiny tube of moisture can make a big difference.

The Honest Company Hand Sanitizer Spray (Coastal Surf + Fragrance-Free)
Gentle on hands but effective—perfect for all that sanitizing.

NIVEA Skin Creme
A soothing treat for hands that are always washing.

Ice Breakers Coolmint Mints & Extra Smooth Mint Gum
A breath refresh that fits in any pocket.

Silk Scrunchies & Matte Hair Claw Clips
Practical and cute—great for pulling hair up quickly and comfortably.

Blue Ballpoint Pens (Bold Point)
Because somehow nurses are always losing pens, right?

40oz Blue Bow Tumbler with Straw
For staying hydrated on the move, with a little fun.

Alani Nu “Blue Slush” Energy Drink
A pick-me-up in during a long shift.

Welch’s Fruit Snacks
A little nostalgic sweet treat never hurt.

All of this tucked into a medium Bogg Bag
Functional, washable, and something they can use again for the beach, gym, or work.

Each basket is tied with a handmade chiffon ribbon in soft baby blues to finish the look and, of course, continue the baby boy theme 💙 (shop the everything in my basket here)

These baskets aren’t meant to be flashy or over-the-top. They’re just a small gesture to say, I see you. I appreciate you. I’m grateful for your care. So if you’re pregnant and wondering whether or not to put something together for your L&D team, just know: there’s no rulebook here. But if you’re someone who values setting the tone with kindness, this can be a beautiful way to do just that.
